[VY2] Release Date Announced!

The Vocaloid Store states that the main goal was trying to reach a realistic and stable singing voice. VY2's voice is also going to include a "faint breath" element, making it "more natural".

VY2 was developed by Bplats under Yamaha's license; he's being sold at a price of 11,800 yen (96,37 €) and will be released April 25th, 2011.
His recommended range is A1-E3 with a recommended tempo of 70-140 BPM.

[Hatsune Miku] Lat Version Miku Figure

The upcoming Lat ver. Miku is going to be released by Good Smile Company. This Miku was originally created by Lat as a 3D model for MikuMikuDance (MMD), and its popularity has enabled it to be made into an actual figure now.

She appears as a slightly younger version of normal Miku. Also, instead of Miku's "01" symbol on the arm, this Lat Miku has a red ring going around her arm. Lat Miku's hair is made of clear plastic. just like the Tony Miku figure.

The glasses and the mic are actually removable. Also, the figure comes with a second mic.

Lat version Miku figure will be priced at 5,500 yen and it's scheduled to be released in August 2011.

Yamaha announced a version of the Vocaloid software for the iPhone and iPad, which exhibited at the Y2 Autumn 2010 Digital Content Expo in Japan. VY1 was released recently in a adapted version of the Vocaloid software "iVocaloid" for the iPad and iPhone as "VY1t".

Those wishing to purchase this software must also have a Japanese chip on their iPad or iPhone to use this software.

[VOCALO Revolution] Original Character "CUL" Revealed [VY1]

"VOCALO Revolution" is a new TV program that is dedicated to presenting the cultural aspect of Vocaloid and its impact in the music scene. It will include interviews with the creators of the software, music producers, and their fans. The show will also take a look at some of the latest Vocaloid PVs from your favorite virtual idols.

The official website for "VOCALO Revolution" revealed the design of its own original character named CUL — who will be using the VY1 voicebank. CUL will be singing the program’s ending theme, "CUL makes Revolution!". The song features music by 164 with lyrics by hirotoP. An MMD video for the ending, produced by masatakaP, has already been released to the public. You can check out the video below.

"VOCALO Revolution" is scheduled to air on January 3rd, 2011 (23:00~23:55) on KBS.

[AVTechNO] KAT-TUN Song's Alleged Plagiarism

On November 30th, popular Vocaloid producer AVTechNO! removed all of his videos from Nico Nico Douga without explanation.

The plot thickened when a post was made that strongly implied the video removal was connected to the shock he felt while investigating comments that pointed out very strong similarities between his hit song “DYE” and a new song by popular J-pop group KAT-TUN. Later twitter posts by Treow would affirm that this was not the reason, or rather, the reason was related to stress, and that the videos would be back.

This didn’t stop people from realizing what had happened: it certainly appeared that the composers for KAT-TUN’s song “Never x Over” had stolen very recognizable parts of “DYE”.

Even though the video for “Never x Over” on youtube has been put on private (you can guess the reason), you can still judge the similarities for yourself: someone took the first minute of DYE and overlapped it with the first minute of “Never x Over”.

The story of possible plagiarism has been steadily gaining ground, with a blurb written about it on Yahoo News, as well as mixi, and although their handle on Vocaloid knowledge seems to be shaky. Comments range from total Vocaloid newcomers asking what Vocaloid is, to people placing the blame on KAT-TUN, to people trying to remain neutral on the matter.

AVTechNO has yet to comment on this subject further. However, with all of the attention the matter is currently getting, he might have a chance of proving he’s been wronged, if he so desired.

Perhaps in response to all of this attention, “DYE” has risen to 57th place on iTunes Japan, and it has reached 2nd place in Amazon.jp MP3 downloads (here).

Crypton has updated the Kagamines’ Append page giving a sneak preview of how Append Rin and Len will look like when they are released.

Rin’s Append will consist of “Power”, “Warm” and “Sweet”.

[Hatsune Miku] The English Version Will Happen!

Crypton is really going to make an English version of Hatsune Miku. Earlier this year, the CEO of Crypton stated that if Hatsune Miku got at least 39,390 likes on her official Facebook page, they would make an English version of the software.

That goal has been achieved!

Thousands of vocaloid fans got together and voted to help fullfill our humble dreams. The number 39 when said in Japanese sounds like san kyuu, or thank you with a Japanese accent. It can also be pronounced Miku using another counting system in Japanese. Now, Crypton will have two engrish-speaking vocaloids!

[Hatsune Miku] Teenage boy steals a Hatsune Miku figurine!

According to the Japanese newspaper Sankei Shimbun, on November 1st, a 15 year-old boy was arrested after stiling a figurine of Hatsune Miku, which was priced at 7,040 yen, and assaulted a shop clerk and a security guard to escape at a shop in Sammu city, Chiba prefecture.

There will be a new Vocaloid joining the family and this time round Sony Music has decided to join in the market. This Vocaloid will be distributed under Sony Music Distribution and the name for the Japanese male Vocaloid (utilizing the Vocaloid2 engine) will be known as Utatane Piko (歌手音ピコ) The kanji for "Utatane" literally means "sound of singer". For those wondering Piko is a popular singer on Nico Nico Douga with his community here. Piko is known for his high pitch and woman-like voice, and his Vocaloid will also has wider range than any other existing Vocaloids.

He is expected to be released on December 8th 2010 at a price of 15,750 yen (tax included) and you can pre-order the software over at Sony Music Shop.

A British newspaper "Metro" has featured Hastune Miku in an article!

Miku is a computer application but that hasn’t stopped her from conquering the music world by playing to thousands at live concerts and getting millions of hits on YouTube.Technically, she is a virtual music synthesiser programme which uses technology called Vocaloid to allow PC users to create their own music. Hatsune is a character from the Vocaloid series developed by Yamaha.

The software gives you ‘a singer in a box’, enabling users to synthesise singing by typing in lyrics and a melody. Users can add effects and change the voice tone and pronunciations.

Although intended for musicians, Vocaloid is popular with video artists. Japanese company Crypton Future Media took the technology and created the Miku avatar in 2007.

The name is made up of the Japanese for ‘first’ (hatsu), ‘sound’ (ne) and ‘future’ (miku). So now you know. She rose to popularity through the website Nico Nico Douga (smile smile video), a Japanese equivalent of YouTube. Users began making their own music using Miku and lent her voice to existing songs.

Miku’s voice is sampled from Japanese voice actress Saki Fujita. Different versions of the voice are available – from gentle to heartbroken.

Recently it was made known during the “Hatsune Miku: Meet the Makers of a Digital Idol” panel over at New York Comic Con/New York Anime Festival 2010 with regards to the future plans for Miku and the rest of Crypton Vocaloids in the US according to the co-creators of Vocaloid, Hiroyuki Ito and Wataru Sasaki.

We could even have a English version of Miku in the future.

Plans for a English Miku to be materialized provided her Facebook has more than 39,390 likes.
(39 could be pronounced as “Miku” or “Sankyu” in Japanese, which means “Thank You” in English)

Kagamine Appends scheduled to be released in December 2010.

On October 1st, ANN announced that Hatsune Miku has two more concerts, another one in San Francisco, and one in New York:

The Viz Cinema in San Francisco’s Japantown district has scheduled a October 11 screening of virtual idol Hatsune Miku’s “film concert” with the idol’s creator as an in-person special guest. The show is billed as an “encore” to the previous screening of the concert, Hatsune Miku’s first official U.S. appearance, at the September 19 J-Pop Summit Festival. The New York Anime Festival has also scheduled a screening of the concert for this year’s event, which takes place October 8 to 10. The concert is scheduled for Saturday, October 9 at 11:45 a.m. Hatsune’s creators will also be guests at the convention.

A character described as moe today is an amalgam of Lolicon and Bishoujo features. Most are infantile and bright and have massive, wet, dog-like eyes. They can seem almost animal-like, alien, or androgynous. This new Vocaloid (a collaboration between AH-Software and Sanrio) will be named as Nekomura Iroha (猫村いろは) and the illustrator for her will be okama, in which she was originally a kittyler before given the upgrade to become a Vocaloid.

It’s been made known that the popular Kagamine Len song “Servant of Evil”, which has over two million views on Nico Nico Douga, will be serialized in the monthly issue of “Comic Rush” magazine.

“Servant of Evil” (or Aku no Meshitsukai), which originated as a Kagamine Len song created by AkunoP using both Kagamine Vocaloid software, is the sequel to Kagamine Rin’s “Daughter of Evil” (Aku no Musume) made also by the same producer. With the various illustrations on Piapro and attention brought about by viewers on NND the song has since surpassed two million views, making it a remarkable achievement on its own.

The manga serialization will begin in the November issue of Comic Rush (release date – September 25th 2010) with Nekoyama Miyao (猫山宮緒) doing the illustrations. A bonus DVD containing the songs “Daughter of Evil” and “Servant of Evil” will also be included in the November issue as well.

The New People center in San Francisco’s Japantown has announced that it will host what it describes as “the first-ever U.S. appearance” of the virtual idol singer Hatsune Miku during the J-Pop Summit Festival on September 18. At the Nico Nico Douga Daikaigi 2010 Summer: Egao no Chikara event, YAMAHA, Fuji TV Kids, and the Internet Co. Ltd. music and software company announced that they would release a new voice pack for the Vocaloid2 singing simulation softare. The pack will be based on the Gachapin character from Hirake! Ponkikki, a popular Fuji TV kids' program which ran from 1973 to 1993.

The "Gachapoid" Gachapin x Vocaloid voice pack CD will be released on October 8 with a special green case and a free six-month subscription to Nico Nico Douga's premium paid service.

Gachapoid is intended to appeal to young audiences and is designed with young producers in mind.

Gachapin is the second franchise to become a vocaloid after AH-Softwares currently unknown "Hello Kitty" Vocaloid.

[VY1] Deluxe Package Available on Yamaha Vocaloid Store!

On August 13th, Yamaha updated their store with pre-orders for their new Vocaloid, simply titled VY1 — the “MIZKI” codename was just in relation to the ‘hanamizuki‘ theme (a type of flower).

In addition to just the software, which will cost 11,800 yen, there is a deluxe version available for 3,000 yen more. The deluxe version comes with a T-shirt, a face towel, stickers, a special case, and a compilation CD. The CD features covers and arrangements by well-known producers, and along with the songs, there are different designs drawn out for VY1. VY1 has no set character design, and is actually the first Japanese Vocaloid to be released as such. This is ostensibly because VY1 is to be considered a product for professional musicians.

Pre-orders end on the 25th and the software will be available starting September 1st, but if you pre-order you also get a special VY1 tumbler.

For those who want a better feel for VY1′s voice, the songs “Flower and Water” and “648 Song” are being used as a tool for comparison between voicebanks.

"Rio" from "Kitty to Issho!" by KEI

There are issues that need to be clarified about AHS new Vocaloid:

1) The YouTube video showing the new Vocaloid’s song demos over at the Comiket 78 event is only an image, KEI’s kittyler Rio is NOT the official illustration for the new Vocaloid. Kittyler Rio is part of another collaboration known as “Kitty to Issho!”.

2) The new Vocaloid’s official illustration will NOT be done by KEI but by another illustrator who’s not yet announced at the moment.

3) The reason for the collaboration between Sanrio and AHS is simply due to Sanrio having its 50th anniversary and AHS choosing Sanrio in a random selection for the Vocaloid collaboration.

[Kagamine Append] Len & Rin's Appends Revealed!

Information from Crypton’s Vocaloid2 CV Twitter account has revealed a test version of Rin’s Append Sweet and there’s also more information regarding Len’s Append which was made known recently.

First off here’s the sample with Rin’s Append Sweet. Do take note that the Append is still in its experimental stage so do expect possible updates and changes in the future.

Now onto the news regarding Len’s Append. According to this tweet Crypton has just finished the sound check for the Alpha version of Kagamine Len’s Append and they will be planning to show his Append voice latest by January next year.

We will be having another Vocaloid joining the family and this time round it’s from AH-Software Co. Ltd., in which the news was announced during this year’s summer Comiket.

Although we still don’t know the name of the Vocaloid or who the official illustrator will be but what we do know that Sanrio was chosen by AHS in a random pick for the Vocaloid collaboration due to Sanrio having its 50th anniversary. The new Vocaloid’s public showing will be in September and sales will begin in October.
