[VY1] iPad and iPhone Application [VY1t]

Yamaha announced a version of the Vocaloid software for the iPhone and iPad, which exhibited at the Y2 Autumn 2010 Digital Content Expo in Japan. VY1 was released recently in a adapted version of the Vocaloid software "iVocaloid" for the iPad and iPhone as "VY1t".

While this version has limited capablities, but at the price of ¥1,800 for the iPad and ¥350 for the iPhone has made this the cheapest version of the Vocaloid software currently on sale. This version of the software has only been released in Japanese and there is no known details on if a english version will be released or if any other Vocaloids will be released on this format for that matter. Those wishing to purchase this software must also have a Japanese chip on their iPad or iPhone to use this software.

[Project DIVA] Dreamy Theater 2nd!!!

"Hatsune Miku -Project DIVA- Dreamy Theater 2nd" for the Playstation 3 was confirmed by SEGA.

Like the previous installment, Dreamy Theater 2nd will allow owners of the Project DIVA 2nd PSP game to play their save data on the PS3 through high-definition visuals.


It is slated for release in Summer 2011.

[VOCALO Revolution] Original Character "CUL" Revealed [VY1]

"VOCALO Revolution" is a new TV program that is dedicated to presenting the cultural aspect of Vocaloid and its impact in the music scene. It will include interviews with the creators of the software, music producers, and their fans. The show will also take a look at some of the latest Vocaloid PVs from your favorite virtual idols.

The official website for "VOCALO Revolution" revealed the design of its own original character named CUL — who will be using the VY1 voicebank. CUL will be singing the program’s ending theme, "CUL makes Revolution!". The song features music by 164 with lyrics by hirotoP. An MMD video for the ending, produced by masatakaP, has already been released to the public. You can check out the video below.

"VOCALO Revolution" is scheduled to air on January 3rd, 2011 (23:00~23:55) on KBS.

[GUMI] Extend - the Future of Megpoid

Following the success of Crypton's Append, Internet Co., Ltd has confirmed Gumi will recieve a "Megpoid Extend" edition in 2011. The new Extend will add several vocal expressions to the original voice bank although further details remain unknown.

[KAITO] New KAITO on the way!

Crypton announced that they are developing a new production of Kaito on twitter. Recording of Naoto Fuuga's voice started on Dec. 9th, 2010. Several voicebanks of different expressions like the Appends have been produced for the product. There are four expressions empirically under development; temporarily "Mellow", "Sweet", "Solid" and "Power".

[Megurine Luka] Append - The Future of Luka

Luka was confirmed in early 2010 by Crypton Future Media via Twitter to have a Append planned like the other members of the Character Vocal series. Recording was scheduled for autumn 2010 to begin. Nothing is known about the Append other then a few samples were recorded when the Kagamine Append voicebanks were already in production.

[AVTechNO] KAT-TUN Song's Alleged Plagiarism

On November 30th, popular Vocaloid producer AVTechNO! removed all of his videos from Nico Nico Douga without explanation.

The plot thickened when a post was made that strongly implied the video removal was connected to the shock he felt while investigating comments that pointed out very strong similarities between his hit song “DYE” and a new song by popular J-pop group KAT-TUN. Later twitter posts by Treow would affirm that this was not the reason, or rather, the reason was related to stress, and that the videos would be back.

This didn’t stop people from realizing what had happened: it certainly appeared that the composers for KAT-TUN’s song “Never x Over” had stolen very recognizable parts of “DYE”.

Even though the video for “Never x Over” on youtube has been put on private (you can guess the reason), you can still judge the similarities for yourself: someone took the first minute of DYE and overlapped it with the first minute of “Never x Over”.

The story of possible plagiarism has been steadily gaining ground, with a blurb written about it on Yahoo News, as well as mixi, and although their handle on Vocaloid knowledge seems to be shaky. Comments range from total Vocaloid newcomers asking what Vocaloid is, to people placing the blame on KAT-TUN, to people trying to remain neutral on the matter.

AVTechNO has yet to comment on this subject further. However, with all of the attention the matter is currently getting, he might have a chance of proving he’s been wronged, if he so desired.

Perhaps in response to all of this attention, “DYE” has risen to 57th place on iTunes Japan, and it has reached 2nd place in Amazon.jp MP3 downloads (here).

Crypton has updated the Kagamines’ Append page giving a sneak preview of how Append Rin and Len will look like when they are released.

Rin’s Append will consist of “Power”, “Warm” and “Sweet”.
Len will have Append “Power”, “Cold” and “Serious”.

Also, more samples using the Appends have been uploaded and you can listen to all the samples available currently.

Reservations for the Appends is up on the site for those interested and the software will be released in late December 2010 at a price of 16,800 yen (with taxes included).

[Hatsune Miku] The English Version Will Happen!

Crypton is really going to make an English version of Hatsune Miku. Earlier this year, the CEO of Crypton stated that if Hatsune Miku got at least 39,390 likes on her official Facebook page, they would make an English version of the software.

That goal has been achieved!

Thousands of vocaloid fans got together and voted to help fullfill our humble dreams. The number 39 when said in Japanese sounds like san kyuu, or thank you with a Japanese accent. It can also be pronounced Miku using another counting system in Japanese. Now, Crypton will have two engrish-speaking vocaloids!

[Hatsune Miku] Teenage boy steals a Hatsune Miku figurine!

According to the Japanese newspaper Sankei Shimbun, on November 1st, a 15 year-old boy was arrested after stiling a figurine of Hatsune Miku, which was priced at 7,040 yen, and assaulted a shop clerk and a security guard to escape at a shop in Sammu city, Chiba prefecture.

Acording to Vocaloid Wiki, like VY1 was confirmed "Feminine", VY2 has been confirmed to be a "Masculine" voice. VY2 will share the same intention as VY1 of being a Vocaloid without set gender, face or voice.

There will be a new Vocaloid joining the family and this time round Sony Music has decided to join in the market. This Vocaloid will be distributed under Sony Music Distribution and the name for the Japanese male Vocaloid (utilizing the Vocaloid2 engine) will be known as Utatane Piko (歌手音ピコ) The kanji for "Utatane" literally means "sound of singer". For those wondering Piko is a popular singer on Nico Nico Douga with his community here. Piko is known for his high pitch and woman-like voice, and his Vocaloid will also has wider range than any other existing Vocaloids.

He is expected to be released on December 8th 2010 at a price of 15,750 yen (tax included) and you can pre-order the software over at Sony Music Shop.

A British newspaper "Metro" has featured Hastune Miku in an article!

Miku is a computer application but that hasn’t stopped her from conquering the music world by playing to thousands at live concerts and getting millions of hits on YouTube.Technically, she is a virtual music synthesiser programme which uses technology called Vocaloid to allow PC users to create their own music. Hatsune is a character from the Vocaloid series developed by Yamaha.

The software gives you ‘a singer in a box’, enabling users to synthesise singing by typing in lyrics and a melody. Users can add effects and change the voice tone and pronunciations.

Although intended for musicians, Vocaloid is popular with video artists. Japanese company Crypton Future Media took the technology and created the Miku avatar in 2007.

The name is made up of the Japanese for ‘first’ (hatsu), ‘sound’ (ne) and ‘future’ (miku). So now you know. She rose to popularity through the website Nico Nico Douga (smile smile video), a Japanese equivalent of YouTube. Users began making their own music using Miku and lent her voice to existing songs.

Miku’s voice is sampled from Japanese voice actress Saki Fujita. Different versions of the voice are available – from gentle to heartbroken.

[Hatsune Miku] English Version?!

Recently it was made known during the “Hatsune Miku: Meet the Makers of a Digital Idol” panel over at New York Comic Con/New York Anime Festival 2010 with regards to the future plans for Miku and the rest of Crypton Vocaloids in the US according to the co-creators of Vocaloid, Hiroyuki Ito and Wataru Sasaki.

We could even have a English version of Miku in the future.

Plans for a English Miku to be materialized provided her Facebook has more than 39,390 likes.
(39 could be pronounced as “Miku” or “Sankyu” in Japanese, which means “Thank You” in English)

Kagamine Appends scheduled to be released in December 2010.

Possibility of a Vocaloid shop opening in the US should there be enough demand for it.

VY2 To Be Released This Year!

Currently nothing is known about it. However as it is part of the "VY" series, VY2 will share the same intention as VY1 of being a Vocaloid without set gender, face or voice.

VY2 is a Vocaloid due for release later this year.

[Petition] Hatsune Miku Goes to New York

On October 1st, ANN announced that Hatsune Miku has two more concerts, another one in San Francisco, and one in New York:

The Viz Cinema in San Francisco’s Japantown district has scheduled a October 11 screening of virtual idol Hatsune Miku’s “film concert” with the idol’s creator as an in-person special guest. The show is billed as an “encore” to the previous screening of the concert, Hatsune Miku’s first official U.S. appearance, at the September 19 J-Pop Summit Festival. The New York Anime Festival has also scheduled a screening of the concert for this year’s event, which takes place October 8 to 10. The concert is scheduled for Saturday, October 9 at 11:45 a.m. Hatsune’s creators will also be guests at the convention.

Looks like the online petition seems to be working. Let's see where is Miku going next time!

Moe (もえ・萌え): Literally meaning “to bud” and a pun on the homonym “to burn”. It is used among otaku to mean getting fired up for budding young beauties. A character described as moe today is an amalgam of Lolicon and Bishoujo features. Most are infantile and bright and have massive, wet, dog-like eyes. They can seem almost animal-like, alien, or androgynous. The appeal of moe features relates to childlike purity, so it should come as no surprise that moe characteristics tend to be younger than Kawaii Bishoujo schoolgirls. The lolicon image is now considered too “real”, and too sexual, so moe is used instead to define a fantasy love or desire.

This new Vocaloid (a collaboration between AH-Software and Sanrio) will be named as Nekomura Iroha (猫村いろは) and the illustrator for her will be okama, in which she was originally a kittyler before given the upgrade to become a Vocaloid.
